Summer Holiday 2004

It all began when...

The holiday began 5 days ahead of schedual when my boss said he had booked tickets on the new midweek Tajikair flight to Istanbul. Mike, a colleague, and I agreed to spend the time visiting Gallipoli.

On reaching Istanbul we went with our Turkish friends to the bus station. Tickets to Canakkale were easily purchased. We had time for a drink before boarding out luxury coach to the Dardinals.

Once checked into Anzac House we knew that the holiday had begun.

Gallipoli

Mike was the Gallipoli War expert. He thought that the tour organised by the hotel would be good value. It was a two part tour. The morning would be a visit to Troy and after lunch a tour of  Gallipoli and the Anzac war monuments. We organised our own tour to visit the area associated with the English landings.

Kilitabahir was the start of the tour of the Gallipoli Battlefields. We crossed the Sea of Marmara by the car ferry and by special charter boat. Once on the otherside we were able to explore Gallipoli.
